En una jornada marcada por la elegancia, el simbolismo y la fraternidad, la Embajada de la República Árabe de Egipto en el Perú celebró el 73.º aniversario de su Fiesta Nacional con una emotiva recepción en el Swissotel. El evento conmemoró también el 62.º aniversario del establecimiento de relaciones diplomáticas entre Egipto y Perú, y congregó a altas autoridades del Estado peruano, miembros del cuerpo diplomático, representantes académicos, culturales y de la comunidad egipcia residente.

La ceremonia fue presidida por el embajador Ahmed Hamdi Bakr, quien ofreció un discurso vibrante, íntimo y profundamente humano. Desde el inicio, evocó la grandeza compartida entre Perú y Egipto: “Desde las grandes pirámides hasta las líneas de Nazca, desde los jeroglíficos egipcios hasta las culturas andinas, nuestras civilizaciones han sabido mirar hacia el cielo con respeto por la naturaleza y sentido sagrado de comunidad.”

Bakr recordó que en sus dieciocho meses en el país descubrió no solo el potencial económico y turístico del Perú, sino sobre todo su mayor tesoro:
“El pueblo peruano tiene una calidez difícil de encontrar en el mundo. Su apertura, su sencillez y su espíritu acogedor son una riqueza inmensa.” Reveló que llegó sin hablar español, pero que fue recibido con generosidad y paciencia, lo que le permitió aprender el idioma y estrechar vínculos profundos. “Perú y Egipto comparten una forma humana de vivir la vida: con afecto sincero, cercanía y capacidad de acoger al otro sin importar su origen, religión o idioma.”

El embajador también destacó gestos concretos de solidaridad, como la visita de médicos egipcios al distrito de Villa María del Triunfo, donde brindaron atención gratuita.
“Las relaciones entre países no se construyen solo con tratados, sino con compasión y acción concreta”, mencionó.

En su mensaje, Bakr abogó por fortalecer la cooperación bilateral en turismo, cultura, infraestructura y salud. Subrayó que Egipto vive un importante proceso de transformación, con el desarrollo de una nueva capital administrativa, ciudades inteligentes y una creciente capacidad industrial, especialmente en insumos médicos y materiales de construcción.

Por su parte, el presidente del Consejo de Ministros, Eduardo Arana, brindó un discurso solemne en nombre del gobierno peruano. En él, destacó la historia compartida entre ambas naciones: “Egipto, uno de los pilares de la civilización universal, ha legado al mundo avances en ciencia, arte y pensamiento. Perú, con culturas como Caral y el Imperio Inca, también ha sido testigo de sociedades asombrosas. Hoy somos dos civilizaciones que se reconocen y se respetan.”

Arana celebró que Egipto fuera el primer país árabe en establecer vínculos diplomáticos con el Perú en 1963. Y elogió el papel de Egipto como actor clave en la estabilidad regional y defensor de la paz en Medio Oriente: “No es sólo un socio estratégico: Egipto es un aliado, un amigo, una nación hermana con la que compartimos historia, valores y visión de futuro.”

El premier también destacó el dinamismo económico entre ambos países. En 2023, Perú exportó a Egipto más de 13 millones de dólares, principalmente en semillas de siembra, tintes vegetales y zinc crudo. Por su parte, Egipto exportó al Perú más de 48 millones de dólares, con productos como explosivos preparados, fertilizantes nitrogenados y cemento.

“Estas cifras reflejan una complementariedad real, que debemos potenciar con una hoja de ruta comercial e inversiones que beneficie a nuestros pueblos.”

Además, Arana resaltó la presencia de inversión peruana en Egipto, mencionando el caso de la empresa AJE Group, que desde 2015 opera en el país con una inversión estimada en 80 millones de dólares, consolidando la presencia peruana en el mercado árabe y africano.
“Esta apuesta reafirma el interés peruano en Egipto y abre la puerta para que empresas egipcias también inicien operaciones en nuestro país”, indicó.

Ambos discursos convergieron en la necesidad urgente de construir puentes entre África y América Latina. Se mencionó el impulso al diálogo a través de plataformas como la Comunidad Andina, la Unión Africana y la Alianza del Pacífico, así como la consolidación de un grupo parlamentario de amistad.

El embajador Bakr lanzó un llamado por la paz en Medio Oriente, expresando su preocupación por la tragedia humana en Gaza y reafirmando la postura histórica de Egipto en favor del desarme nuclear y la coexistencia de dos Estados.

Egypt Celebrates 73 Years as a Republic: A Day of Brotherhood with Peru By Ricardo Sánchez Serra
In a gathering marked by elegance, symbolism and fraternity, the Embassy of the Arab Republic of Egypt in Peru celebrated the 73rd anniversary of its National Day with a moving reception at the Swissotel. The event also commemorated the 62nd anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Egypt and Peru, bringing together high-level Peruvian authorities, members of the diplomatic corps, academic and cultural representatives, and members of the Egyptian community residing in the country.
The ceremony was presided over by Ambassador Ahmed Hamdi Bakr, who delivered a vibrant, intimate and profoundly human speech. From the outset, he evoked the shared greatness between Peru and Egypt: “From the grand pyramids to the Nazca lines, from Egyptian hieroglyphics to the Andean cultures, our civilizations have known how to look to the sky with reverence for nature and a sacred sense of community.”
Bakr recalled that during his eighteen months in the country, he discovered not only Peru’s economic and tourism potential, but above all its greatest treasure: “The Peruvian people possess a warmth that is rare to find in the world. Their openness, simplicity and welcoming spirit are of immense value.” He revealed that he arrived without speaking Spanish, but was received with generosity and patience, which enabled him to learn the language and forge deep connections. “Peru and Egypt share a human way of living life: with sincere affection, closeness and the capacity to welcome others regardless of origin, religion or language.”
The ambassador also highlighted concrete acts of solidarity, such as the visit of Egyptian doctors to the district of Villa María del Triunfo, where they provided free medical care. “Relations between countries are not built only through treaties, but through compassion and tangible action,” he said.
In his remarks, Bakr advocated strengthening bilateral cooperation in tourism, culture, infrastructure and healthcare. He stressed that Egypt is undergoing a major transformation, with the development of a new administrative capital, smart cities and growing industrial capabilities, particularly in medical supplies and construction materials.
Peru’s Prime Minister, Eduardo Arana, delivered a solemn speech on behalf of the Peruvian government. He emphasized the shared historical legacy of both nations: “Egypt, one of the pillars of universal civilization, has bestowed the world with advances in science, art and thought. Peru, with cultures like Caral and the Inca Empire, has likewise witnessed astounding societies. Today, we are two civilizations that recognize and respect one another.”
Arana celebrated the fact that Egypt was the first Arab country to establish diplomatic ties with Peru in 1963, and praised Egypt’s role as a key player in regional stability and a defender of peace in the Middle East: “Egypt is not just a strategic partner — it is an ally, a friend, a sister nation with which we share history, values and a vision for the future.”
The Prime Minister also underscored the growing economic exchange between the two countries. In 2023, Peru exported over 13 million dollars to Egypt, mainly in sowing seeds, plant-based dyes and crude zinc. Egypt, in turn, exported over 48 million dollars to Peru, including items such as prepared explosives, nitrogen fertilizers and cement. “These figures reflect a genuine complementarity that we must enhance with a trade roadmap and investments that benefit our peoples.”
Arana further emphasized Peru’s investment presence in Egypt, highlighting the case of AJE Group, a Peruvian company that has operated in Egypt since 2015, with an estimated investment of 80 million dollars — consolidating Peru’s role in the Arab and African markets. “This commitment reaffirms Peru’s interest in Egypt and opens the door for Egyptian companies to also launch operations in our country,” he noted.
Both speeches converged on the urgent need to build bridges between Africa and Latin America. Dialogue was encouraged through platforms such as the Andean Community, the African Union and the Pacific Alliance, as well as the establishment of a parliamentary friendship group.
Ambassador Bakr made a heartfelt call for peace in the Middle East, expressing deep concern over the humanitarian tragedy in Gaza and reaffirming Egypt’s long-standing position in favor of nuclear disarmament and the peaceful coexistence of two states. “Peace is not a distant option: it is an urgency, a responsibility. Egypt and Peru believe in dignity, sovereignty and the principles enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations.”
The evening concluded with traditional dances, Egyptian cuisine and a spirit of shared affection. It was more than a diplomatic celebration: it was a declaration of fraternity, of living culture and of global vision.
On this 73rd anniversary, Egypt reaffirms its role as a strategic actor in Africa and the Middle East, a promoter of peace and a bridge between religions, cultures and continents. Peru, with its hospitality and universal outlook, positions itself as a natural partner in this journey of understanding, cooperation and shared construction.
“Thank you, Peru, for opening your heart to us. May peace, understanding and hope continue guiding our steps,” said Ahmed Bakr.
